ABOUT THE INSTITUTE
            Central Training Institute for Instructors was established in November, 1962 under the aegis of National Council for Vocational Training (NCVT), DGE&T, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Govt.  of India, New Delhi with the assistance of ILO to train Vocational Instructors for Industrial Training Institutes/Centres.  Subsequently Model Training Institute was also created in February 1965 to enable instructor trainees to have practice teaching.
            Presently the institute has been identified to train the craft instructors required for Centre Of  Excellence (COE) under the World Bank assisted “Vocational Training improvement Project”
            The Institute is located at Guindy, in the heart of Chennai city, adjacent to GST Road, Guindy Industrial Estate and opposite to Guindy railway station.  The institute is 5 kms from the Chennai Airport and well connected by Road and Rail from other parts of the country.


MISSION
To be a Center Of Excellence (COE) for Craft Instructor training and its associated Craftsmen training for excelling in the field of vocational training.
        To produce world class technical manpower To cater to the needs of the ever changing technological field.
        To move forward for closer Institute-Industry Interaction (I-I-I) in day-to-day activities for better suitability of our trained manpower.

CRAFT INSTRUCTOR TRAINING PROGRAM
OBJECTIVES:
To train Vocational Instructors in the areas of Training Methodology, Learners psychology, Workshop Administration, Records management, Use of Audio Visual Aids and to achieve technical competence in their respective trades.
TARGET GROUPS:
            Technical teachers, Instructors, Trainers deputed by State Govt. I.T.I s, Private I.T.Cs, Industries and also private candidates.
            Foreign Nationals working as Technical teachers, Instructors and trainers etc under Commonwealth educational Cooperation Plan sponsored by Indian Council of Cultural Relations.





MODULAR PATTERN OF INSTRUCTOR TRAINING
Under this pattern four modules of Training, each for a duration of three months are given as mentioned below:

Trade Technology
This is divided into two modules namely Trade Technology –I and Trade Technology –II. Trade Technology modules are available only for Fitter, Turner, Machinist, Electrician, Mechanic (Motor Vehicle), Mechanic (Diesel),  Welder (Gas & Electric), Draughtsman (Civil) and Foundryman trades.
Engineering Technology
-          available for all vocational trades.
Training Methodology
This module is also called as Principles of Teaching and available for all vocational trades.
Entry Level Requirements:
1.      A pass in Matriculation or equivalent examination.
2.      Diploma in Engineering relevant to the trade or National Apprenticeship Certificate in respective trade or NTC with one year experience in a reputed industry or training organization.
3.      Age between 18 and 40 years.



MODE OF ADMISSION:
            The Admission notification will be published in the Employment News’ weekly during May/June every year.  Applications can be had from the Principal, Central Training Institute for Instructors, Guindy, Chennai-32 on payment of prescribed fees.
In the modular pattern of instructor training, the twelve months duration has been divided into four modules of each three months duration

A candidate can seek admission to any one of the three modules i.e., Trade Technology –I, Engineering Technology, Training Methodology at the time of admission. To get admission to the Trade Technology –II module, a candidate should have passed module Trade technology –I. All the four modules are to be completed within a period of five years from the date of joining to the first module.  Candidates can resume subsequent modules at any other Advanced Training Institutes of DGE&T located in Ludhiana, MumbaiHyderabad, Howrah and Kanpur according to the availability of trades and vacancies.
